“Alexander Vindman broke the chain of command and leaked the contents of the President’s July 25th phone call to his pal, the ‘whistleblower.’ Over a policy dispute with the President! How is that not vindictive?” the Tennessee Republican tweeted last month.
Trump fired the Vindman twins and had them appropriately and unceremoniously escorted out of the West Wing and off the White House grounds by authorities.

Gordon Sondland, the US’s ambassador to the EU, became the second impeachment witness to be fired on Friday…Sondland was ousted not long after Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, another crucial witness to President Donald Trump’s Ukraine dealings, was abruptly fired and escorted from the White House. “I was advised today that the President intends to recall me effective immediately as United States Ambassador to the European Union,” Sondland said in a statement.

Yes, it is retribution. These people serve the Trump Administration at the pleasure of the President.
