Statement:
“Joe Biden is allowing China to take over the car industry and Americans are being laid off left and right. It is an economic disaster that only President Donald Trump can turn around.” — Alex Pfeiffer, spokesman for Make America Great Again Inc.
Background:
President Donald Trump told supporters on Saturday how it would be a bloodbath for the country’s car industry if Joe Biden were to win re-election.
As Trump said, “China now is building a couple of massive plants where they’re going to build the cars in Mexico and think, they think, that they’re going to sell those cars into the United States with no tax at the border. Let me tell you something to China, if you’re listening President Xi, and you and I are friends, but he understands the way I deal. Those big monster car manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now and you think you’re going to get that, you’re going to not hire Americans and you’re going to sell the cars to us? No. We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going be able to sell those cars. If I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath.”
Merriam-Webster’s dictionary notes that a bloodbath means “a major economic disaster.”
Never Trumper Denver Riggleman understood this and tweeted, “In a speech today Trump refers to a ‘bloodbath’ if he doesn’t wind. In context, he is referring to a ‘bloodbath’ economically for the auto industry if he’s not elected— I watched the entire portion.”
However, the Fake News Media and the Biden campaign teamed up to spread a hoax about President Trump’s remarks. Politico, for example, wrote a story that said, “While it was unclear what the former president meant exactly.” It is in fact very clear what President Trump meant.
Senator J.D. Vance noted, “Donald Trump said that a bloodbath would happen to the American auto industry if Biden kept on promoting Chinese made EVs. He of course is 100 percent correct. All other reporting about his ‘bloodbath’ comment is complete propaganda. The media should be ashamed.”
Elon Musk, a major player in the auto industry, responded to the dishonest media coverage of President Trump’s remarks by writing, “Legacy media lies.”
Matt Stoller, a Democrat activist in D.C., responded to the Biden campaign and wrote, “This statement is a straight up lie. Trump was talking about what would happen to the domestic auto industry without tariffs on Chinese cars made in Mexico.”
It just gets crazier as we go
